Early American Flag: Many stories surround the making of the first American flag but we all know the name Betsy Ross and this heavy cotton throw is an exact replica of the original stars and stripes. Betsy Ross was an upholsterer by trade and when asked by George Washington to make the flag with six pointed stars, Betsy showed him how she could make a five pointed star with one snip of the scissors. The rest is history. The flag was flown when the Declaration of Independence was read aloud at Independence Hall on July 8, 1776.
